Frequently Asked Questions
Getting Started
EtherDelta Wallet is a free, open-source desktop application that allows you to securely store, send, and receive Ethereum and ERC20 tokens. Your private keys are stored encrypted on your local device and never transmitted to any server, giving you complete control over your funds.
Yes, EtherDelta Wallet is completely free to download and use. There are no subscription fees, no premium tiers, and no hidden charges. You only pay standard Ethereum network transaction fees (gas fees) when sending transactions on the blockchain.
EtherDelta Wallet is available for Windows (7, 8, 10, 11), macOS (10.12 or later), and Linux (Ubuntu, Debian, Fedora and other major distributions). Download the appropriate version for your operating system from our download page.
When you first launch EtherDelta Wallet, click "Create New Wallet" and choose a strong password. Your wallet will be created immediately and encrypted with your password. Make sure to back up your private key or wallet file in a secure location.
Yes, you can use your wallet on multiple computers by importing your private key or wallet backup file on each device. However, be cautious when doing this and ensure all computers are secure and free from malware.
Wallet Security
EtherDelta Wallet uses AES-256-GCM encryption to protect your wallet files. Your private keys never leave your device and are never transmitted over the internet. The wallet is open-source, allowing security researchers to audit the code for vulnerabilities.
Unfortunately, if you forget your password and do not have a backup of your private key, there is no way to recover your wallet. This is by design - nobody, including the EtherDelta team, can access your wallet without your password. Always keep a secure backup of your private key.
You can backup your wallet in three ways: (1) Export and write down your private key on paper, (2) Use File > Backup Wallet to save an encrypted backup file, or (3) Copy the wallet files from the EtherDelta application data folder. Store all backups in secure, offline locations.
Never share your private key with anyone. Your private key gives complete control over your wallet and funds. No legitimate service or person will ever ask for your private key. Anyone who has your private key can steal all your funds.
EtherDelta Wallet is designed with security in mind, but for very large amounts, consider using a hardware wallet for additional security. Desktop wallets are generally secure for daily use amounts, but hardware wallets provide an extra layer of protection for long-term storage.
Transactions
Transaction confirmation times depend on network congestion and the gas price you set. Typically, transactions confirm within 1-5 minutes. During periods of high network activity, it may take longer. You can check transaction status on Etherscan.io using your transaction hash.
Gas fees are payments to Ethereum miners for processing and validating transactions on the blockchain. These fees are not collected by EtherDelta Wallet - they go directly to miners. Higher gas prices result in faster transaction confirmation.
If your transaction is pending for a long time, it likely has a gas price that is too low. You can try to speed it up by sending a new transaction with the same nonce but higher gas price (transaction replacement). Alternatively, wait for the network to become less congested.
Once a transaction is confirmed on the blockchain, it cannot be reversed or canceled. If a transaction is still pending, you may be able to replace it with a new transaction sending 0 ETH to yourself with a higher gas price and the same nonce.
ERC20 token transfers are transactions on the Ethereum blockchain and require gas fees to be paid in ETH. Even if you are only sending tokens, you need a small amount of ETH in your wallet to cover the transaction fee.
Tokens
Go to the Tokens section and click "Add Custom Token". Enter the token contract address (found on Etherscan), and the token symbol and decimals should auto-populate. Click "Add Token" to save it to your wallet.
You need to manually add the token to your wallet for it to display. Find the token contract address on Etherscan by looking up your wallet address, then add it as a custom token. The tokens are in your wallet, they just are not being displayed yet.
Yes, EtherDelta Wallet supports all ERC20 tokens. Popular tokens are pre-configured, and you can add any other ERC20 token manually using its contract address.
Ethereum (ETH) is the native cryptocurrency of the Ethereum blockchain. ERC20 tokens are smart contracts built on top of Ethereum that follow a standard interface. Both ETH and ERC20 tokens use the same Ethereum address.
In the Tokens section, click the remove or hide icon next to the token you want to remove. This only removes it from your display - the tokens remain on the blockchain and can be re-added at any time.
Technical Issues
Try restarting your computer and launching the wallet again. If the problem persists, check that your operating system meets the minimum requirements. You may need to reinstall the wallet or update your graphics drivers. Your wallet files are safe in the application data folder.
This usually indicates a connection issue with the Ethereum network. Check your internet connection and wait a few minutes for the wallet to sync. You can also try changing to a different RPC endpoint in Settings > Network. Your funds are safe on the blockchain.
Check that your internet connection is working properly. If you are behind a firewall or using a VPN, you may need to configure network settings. Try switching to a different RPC endpoint in Settings > Network > Custom RPC.
Download the latest version from our download page and install it over your existing installation. Your wallet files and settings will be preserved. Always backup your wallet before updating, although it is not strictly necessary.
Troubleshooting Common Problems
Transaction Failed
Possible causes:
- Insufficient gas limit
- Insufficient ETH balance for gas fees
- Token approval required before transfer
- Smart contract error or restriction
Solutions: Check your ETH balance, increase gas limit, or try the transaction again with adjusted parameters.
Cannot Import Wallet
Possible causes:
- Incorrect private key format
- Corrupted wallet backup file
- Wrong password for encrypted file
- Incompatible wallet file format
Solutions: Verify the private key has 64 hexadecimal characters, check that the backup file is not corrupted, and ensure you are using the correct password.
Slow Synchronization
Possible causes:
- Slow internet connection
- Overloaded RPC endpoint
- Network congestion
- Firewall blocking connection
Solutions: Switch to a different RPC endpoint, check firewall settings, or wait for network conditions to improve.
High Gas Fees
Gas fees vary based on network demand:
- Wait for lower network activity (weekends, late night UTC)
- Use gas price trackers to find optimal times
- Set a lower gas price for non-urgent transactions
- Consider batching multiple operations
Note: Gas fees are determined by the Ethereum network, not by EtherDelta Wallet.
